Cars in German City Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were alerted by a resident who noticed a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in association with the incident," they added.

Local authorities said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.

A high-ranking official stated the incident made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
